How Much Do Sex Coaches Make? A Guide to Sex Coach Salaries

Listen to this article

Becoming a sex coach changed my life completely. Before I embarked on this new career and started earning a proper sex coach salary, I was working in a research center, making about $36,000 a year. Once I started my coaching practice, I was seeing clients on evenings and weekends while still tending to my full-time job. Only a short year later however, I was able to quit my research center job because I’d earned about $100,000 with sex coaching alone. And that was 20 years ago!

I now teach business and marketing to budding sex coaches in the Somatica Training, and here is the shakedown on modern sex coach salaries.

The Basic Math Around Sex Coach Salaries

A sex coach salary can vary significantly, based on your pricing model and number of clients you take on each week or month. If you offer individual or couple’s sessions at the going rate of $75 to $400 per 60-minute session and you see approximately 20 clients per week, your weekly earnings will range from $1,500 to $8,000. Annually, this amounts to a salary between $78,000 and $416,000, assuming consistent client bookings throughout the year.

Alternatively, if you focus on monthly coaching packages priced between $1,000 and $5,000 per client, and you maintain five clients per month, your monthly earnings will range from $5,000 to $25,000. Over a year, this translates to an annual income of $60,000 to $300,000. Another option would be to combine these pricing models, further influencing your potential earnings.

You have to consider though that these numbers do not include expenses such as business and marketing expenses (which you’ll be able to write off on your taxes). Your salary will also vary based on client retention, and your level of expertise or specialization.

When you first start out, you often have to begin at more of an intern salary, which is usually 25% to 50% of what you will eventually earn. Just remember, because this is a newer profession and most coaches are self-employed and set their own rates, there is no standard sexuality coach salary.

Average Sex Coach Salaries: National and Global Perspectives

It’s truly exciting that sex coaching is a profession that you can practice almost anywhere in the world! An intimacy coach salary varies however, depending on where in the world you are located. Because of that, many sex coaches offer their practices fully online, which means you can see clients – regardless of where you or they may be located.

United States: The average annual starting salary for a sex coach in the U.S. is approximately $57,000. In regions like California, this figure ranges between $65,000 and $71,400. Certified Somatica practitioners are reporting annual earnings between $112,500 and $225,000.

Canada: A Somatica coach in Canada charges about CAD 220 for a 75-minute session, equating to approximately $170 USD. Assuming they conduct 15 weekly sessions, their annual income would be around $132,000 USD.

Australia: In Australia, a life coach makes about $65,000 AUD, with a range from $49,000 to $250,000 AUD. While specific data for sex coaches is limited, most of them make about 15% to 25% higher salaries than life coaches because sex coaching is a specialized niche. That translates to $78,000 AUD on average per year, with a range from $56,350 AUD to $312,500 AUD annually. In US dollars, this would be an annual average of $49,400 USD, with a range from $35,700 USD to $198,000 USD.

Europe: In the Netherlands, a Somatica coach can charge around €165 for a 75-minute session, which is approximately $175 USD. With 15 sessions per week, this creates an annual income of about $136,500 USD.

The above data is relevant to self-employed sex coaches. While most sex coaches are indeed practicing independently, sometimes they join a consortium of other coaches to create a healing or wellness center. In this case, you may still be considered self-employed, but may be part of an overarching business that shares expenses such as office space, supplies, and marketing costs.

Some Somatica sex coaches have also been invited into pre-existing offices where other professionals such as licensed therapists, massage or reiki practitioners, or other wellness professionals cross-refer to their clients.

Factors That Influence How Much You Can Earn

1. Experience Level: Entry-Level Trained vs. Seasoned, Certified Professionals

Your experience level as a sex coach plays a significant role in your earning potential.

If you’re just starting out and have only completed foundational training, your sex coach salary will likely be on the lower end until. You will need to charge closer to the minimum session rates and work your way towards a steady income stream.

However, as you gain experience, obtain your certifications, and develop a reputation for getting results, you can raise your rates and attract higher-paying clients. Seasoned professionals with years of experience and a proven track record can command premium prices, often charging $300–$400 per session or securing high-ticket coaching packages. Training and listing your practice with a recognized and accredited institution like the Somatica Institute can help you build credibility and accelerate your earning potential.

2. Certifications and Education: How Credentials Impact Earning Potential

Your level of education and certification as a sex coach significantly impacts how much you can charge.

Many clients seek professionals with recognized credentials to ensure they are receiving guidance from a knowledgeable and ethical expert. While there is no universal licensing for sex coaching, completing an accredited program — especially one backed by institutions like the Somatica Institute — enhances your credibility.

Somatica is approved by the American Board of Sexology and offers CEUs for licensed therapists and social workers, as well as those pursuing AASECT certification (American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists). Additionally, the Somatica Institute is accredited by ASIS (The Association of Somatic and Integrative Sexologists) and CAMFT (California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists).

Having an industry-recognized certification not only allows you to charge higher rates but also helps to attract clients who value professional expertise. Many high-earning sex coaches invest in ongoing education, advanced training, and supervision membership to stay at the forefront of the field and justify premium pricing.

3. Location: High-Paying Cities and Regions

Where you practice can have a major influence on your income as a sex coach. If you’re in a major metropolitan area with a high cost of living, such as New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, or London, clients are more accustomed to premium pricing, and you can likely charge higher rates.

In contrast, if you are based in a smaller town or rural area, local rates may be lower due to less demand or lower disposable income among potential clients. However, location no longer has to limit your earning potential – thanks to the rise of online coaching. Many sex coaches expand their reach by working with clients across the country or even internationally through virtual sessions.

If you position yourself in a niche market and build a strong online presence, you can attract high-paying clients regardless of where you live.

4. Niche and Specialization: Focusing on Specific Client Groups or Issues

Specialization within the field of sex coaching can have a significant effect on your income.

Coaches who cater to specific demographics or unique client needs can often charge higher fees due to their specialized knowledge. Some in-demand niches include intimacy coaching for couples, support for individuals recovering from sexual trauma, LGBTQ+ affirming coaching, BDSM and kink-positive coaching, and dating/relationship coaching for high-net-worth individuals.

By marketing yourself as an expert in a specific area, you can differentiate yourself from general life coaches and attract clients who are willing to pay a premium for specialized help. The Somatica Institute’s comprehensive training equips you with skills to work in multiple areas, allowing you to refine your niche and command higher fees.

5. Business Model: One-on-One Coaching, Workshops, Online Courses, and Passive Income Streams

Your income potential as a sex coach is also determined by how you structure your business.

Many coaches start with one-on-one sessions, which provide direct client interaction and steady income. However, to increase earnings without overloading your schedule, you can expand into group coaching, workshops, and retreats, allowing you to serve multiple clients at once while earning more per hour.

Another lucrative option is creating online courses and membership programs which can generate passive income and allow you to scale your business beyond one-on-one client sessions. Many successful sex coaches have diversified their income streams by offering premium coaching packages, self-paced courses, and even subscription-based communities. By leveraging multiple revenue streams, you can maximize your earnings while reducing the need to rely solely on hourly sessions.

By strategically building your business, specializing in a niche, earning reputable credentials, and positioning yourself in a high-paying market, you can significantly increase your earning potential as a sex coach.

6. Additional Income Streams for Sex Coaches

Expanding beyond one-on-one coaching sessions can create a lasting impact. Here are some more ways to boost and diversify your revenue streams:

  • Digital Products (E-books, Courses, and Content Creation)
You can write books, create online courses, or develop exclusive content that clients can purchase and access at their own pace. This not only helps you generate passive income but also establishes you as an expert in your field. Whether it’s a guide on intimacy, a structured video course on improving relationships, or a members-only blog – your knowledge can reach a wider audience without requiring more of your time.
  • Speaking Engagements (Conferences and Media Appearances)
Establish yourself as a thought leader by speaking at industry conferences, hosting workshops, or appearing on podcasts, TV shows, and webinars. Public speaking not only boosts your credibility but also attracts high-value clients. Many organizations, wellness retreats, and corporate settings are willing to pay for expert-led discussions on intimacy, relationships, and sexual wellness.
  • Affiliate Marketing and Partnerships
Partnering with brands, sex-positive businesses, or wellness companies allows you to earn commissions by recommending products and services that align with your expertise. Whether it’s sex education books, wellness retreats, intimacy-enhancing tools, or relationship coaching programs, affiliate marketing helps you monetize your recommendations while providing value to your audience.
  • Membership Programs and Subscription Content
Create a private membership community where clients get exclusive access to workshops, Q&A sessions, or personalized coaching at a monthly subscription fee. Platforms like Patreon, Substack, or even your own website can be used to provide consistent content while generating recurring revenue.
  • Social Media and Influencer Branding
If you enjoy content creation, you can leverage YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, or a podcast to build a following. By sharing insights on intimacy and relationships, you can attract sponsorships, ad revenue, and brand deals, turning your online presence into an additional income stream. • Publishing and Thought Leadership
Writing a book, research papers, or expert columns in reputable publications can solidify your authority in the field. Many coaches who establish themselves as recognized authors or researchers attract higher-paying clients, media invitations, and speaking engagements.

By creatively incorporating multiple income streams into your business, you can increase financial stability, expand your influence, and make a greater impact in your chosen field.

A Real-World Example of What Successful Sex Coaches Earn

One great real-world example from the Somatica training was a student by the name of Maggie who started offering free sessions and then moved them into selling 6-month coaching packages.

Before she even graduated from the certification training, she wrote to us: “I now have 19 paid 6-months contracts and have already earned back what I’ve paid for the full certification, the Character Training mastery class, and there’s money left over for the upcoming Somatica Immersion Retreat that I can’t wait for!”

This means Maggie earned over $20,000 before even graduating from the program (Somatica coaches in training can start seeing clients after the first 6 months), and continues to have a lucrative and thriving full-time private coaching practice. In the Somatica Marketing Class, students learn the “Maggie Method” as one of their many marketing strategies!

Long-Term Strategy: Build Your Brand

While you are doing all of the other things to increase your sex coach salary like finding your niche, expanding to social media, and becoming a thought leader, you always want to keep your eye on the prize: building a well-respected brand.

Whether you are the brand, or you create and name your own – the more visible and authoritative you are in your field, the more clients will be willing to invest in your services. Branding isn’t just about having a website — it’s about crafting a compelling online presence, engaging content, and a strong professional identity.

In addition to a focused marketing campaign, exceptional customer service plays a crucial role in building your brand and increasing client retention. Being responsive, empathetic, and genuinely invested in your clients’ growth creates trust and encourages repeat business. Clients who feel heard, respected, and supported are more likely to refer others to you, leave positive testimonials, and invest in long-term coaching packages.

Promptly responding to inquiries, providing clear communication about your services, and offering a seamless booking process all contribute to a professional coaching practice that can increase the value of your coaching exponentially.

The Value of a Somatica Certification

Investing in a Somatica certification is more than just a step toward becoming a sex coach — it’s a powerful career move that can quickly pay for itself with the right strategy. Unlike many other programs that leave you to figure out the business side on your own, Somatica includes a built-in business and marketing module to help you start earning sooner.

Many training programs treat marketing as an afterthought or charge extra for it, but Somatica gives you the tools to attract clients, set up a profitable coaching business, and scale your income — right from the start.

That doesn’t mean success happens overnight. Building a thriving sex coaching practice takes time, and reaching a six-figure income requires commitment, consistency, and strategic action. But real-world success stories like Maggie’s prove that with the right approach, you can start earning well before you even complete the program.

If you take a strategic, proactive approach, you too can maximize your earning potential as a sex coach. Somatica’s comprehensive training not only prepares you with world-class coaching techniques but also teaches you exactly how to build a sustainable business so you can start attracting clients as soon as possible.
